Failed Upgrade Halts Dash Blockchain

by Blockchaincubes

A planned system upgrade of the Privacy-Coin-Blockchain Dash did not bring the desired success. The execution of the hardfork led to the network coming to a standstill for several hours. This incident occurred on May 22, when the Dash Blockchain suspended the processing of new transactions and the production of new blocks during the activation of the Dash Core v19 hardfork, as reported by Dash CTO, Samuel Westrich.

Reactions to the Outage

After the error became known, the crypto exchange Binance responded promptly and announced that its own mining pool for DASH would suspend the distribution of mining rewards until the blockchain resumes block production.

Restoration of the Dash Blockchain

About 13 hours after the blockchain outage, the developers announced a fix with v19.1.0. On May 23, Westrich confirmed that the Dash network was repaired and stable again. According to data from the blockchain explorer cryptoid, the network is again regularly creating blocks.

Goals of the Upgrade

The upgrade aimed to improve the security of the network and introduce a master-node implementation. A new attempt to carry out the hardfork is planned for June 14.
